Current heart: Napoleon Perdis Sheer Genius Liquid Foundation

For those of you who've known me for awhile, you know that my skin has had its major ups and downs since my Freshmen year of college. I went from a clear faced teen in high school, to brutal full blown puberty face in my 1st year of college. Nards!
I've struggled with the right foundation for what seems like years. Right color, right coverage, right consistency, right price...the list goes on and on. I can now confidently say that I've found my HG (Holy Grail) Foundation! Halleluyer~
I was just finishing up my bottle of Clinique's Even Better Foundation in Ivory and wasn't too thrilled with it so was keeping one eye out for the next thing to try. Went to Ulta to look for highlighters and stumbled upon the Napoleon Perdis section. Napoleon Perdis is supposedly the MAC of Australia. They have beauty schools that are well known and their cosmetics line is slowly starting to gain popularity in the U.S. as well. I've heard of the brand, but since it's not that common to see, I've never thought about looking into it.

Napoleon Perdis Sheer Genius Liquid Foundation (in color #2) is my new bff due to:
1) The color adhering to the face. The colors that they sell are not exact color matches, but are broad in general. You put on a color that looks similar enough to your face color, but it matches to your skin tone. Unbulbubble! It leaves my face with a nice porcelain finish, per my co-worker :). (I've always wanted to use the word porcelain and face in the same sentence.)
2) The coverage is a nice medium to full coverage. It's a buildable makeup that allows you to layer on while not looking thick and cakey.
3) The consistency is very light and sheer feeling. It literally feels like second skin. Plus, it makes my skin feel very moisturized without leaving it too shiny.
4) Price is the icky part. For a 1 oz. bottle, it's a whopping $59. I don't think that it's too wallet friendly, but according to the sales rep, it's supposed to last for 10 months. I'm not sure if I 100% believe her, but even if it lasts for 6 months, I'll be a happy camper.

Normally, before I purchase any kind of makeup, I read up on review after review. After I purchased the NP, I read very negative reviews that turned me off for a nanosecond. I've been using NP for 2 weeks now and my skin has never looked and felt better that I've been receiving compliments from so many people. It just goes to show that you can't believe all the hype at times or get sucked into the negativity of the netizens...there may be a certain amount of validity in the reviews, but one needs to experience some things for themselves. If you purchase this foundation, some tips are to shake well before use each time and I recommend using the flat top foundation brush. Happy Foundation-ing. :)

P.S. Sorry for the uber long post, but to wind down, let me leave a link to the District Fashion Show I worked at 2 Fridays ago.

Runway Show at Sutra Lounge & Happy Birthday Tabi Kim!

I was given an amazing opportunity to do makeup for a Fashion Show by the wonderful peeps of Vanish Media Marketing Group. It was so much fun and it was just like how I imagined it to be...lights, cameras, directors everywhere and toothpick thin models not eating any of the food that was laid out. It was exciting to see how everything is backstage and I worked on 4 beautiful models and gained valuable experience. Here are some pictures of the models and their makeup. I can't stop gawking at how thin and tall they are...so jealous...

Here's a nice back shot of me doing makeup. I think this is my best angle. Dontcha think? :)

Also, here's a little shout out to my good friend Xtina's daughter Tabitha! She just turned 1 and there's no way that I will ever forget her birthday since her entry into the world kept her mama from coming to my wedding. There's no hint of bitterness in my words towards a toddler btw... ;) Tabi's mama wanted a light, fresh and natural look for the party, so check out the pretty mama and her wonderful fam!

Have a wonderful Monday y'all! xoxo

Engagement Session: Orange County

This is a post about a makeup session I did back in August for my co-worker Ashley. She and her fiance Ryan took pictures outdoors at Crystal Cove National Park in Newport Beach, so she asked for simple and elegant makeup that wasn't too flashy or dark. They are a beautiful couple and I'm so excited for them to make it official and tie the knot this coming year!

Welcome!

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my blog where I hope to share many pictures of my work and also thoughts on makeup application and beauty in general.

This blog in no way is for me to teach, preach or spout knowledge like I know it all. I have so much to learn and it's just the beginning of this long journey for me. Instead, this is an open forum for all to chime in and get their creative juices flowing with makeup and also to share some thoughts.

I hope you all enjoy and please feel free to leave any comments, questions or shout outs!

xoxo
